Let’s be real, I’m a cheap b*st*rd. I’d love to get my hands on one of those sick Electro-Harmonix SYNTH9 pedals. But instead of money, I’ve got plenty of time to spend! That and a stash of Raspberry Pi Picos.
Hence, the Pico Guitar Midi Tracker! The idea here is that the MCU will listen to your guitar in real-time over the buffered ADC and attempt to read the note your playing and the velocity your playing it at. Once it’s got that worked out, it’ll send it over MIDI UART to wherever you want it to go.
So, if you’re looking for an expressive(-ish) way to perform your fancy synthesizer or your just trying to look cooler on stage rather than like a keyboard nerd, this device should be able to do the job…. Should be. I’ve got to majorly rewrite the note detection algorithm (based on Rakarrack) to be a little more tolerable. Right now, the latency is so bad that it’s not very practical. Still, a proof of concept is worth something!
